High Performance Portable
Power Solutions
HOSDB RAF Halton - March 2007
For over 20 years DMS has been supplying batteries, portable power packs
and all manner of custom-built power solutions items to meet varying
specific requirements for the military and police authorities both in the
UK and overseas, as well as major companies such as Rolls- Royce (Powerfield),
Thales, BAe Systems and Marconi. Our custom build expertise has recently
been utilised by the MoD (Navy) to provide portable power packs for the
Dillon Aero M134D MiniGun ship protection weapon.
Another development has been to meet a particular requirement for an AC
portable power supply which can be recharged from either a vehicle,
aircraft or from mains supply. The solution we have developed will have an
output of 230VAC delivering up to 1kW. The unit is designed for operating
in the field and for tactical units who require power for ancillary
equipment. The portable power supply is fitted with 2 x Red Flash®
batteries, which use AGM technology. These batteries provide the highest
level of performance coupled with a wide operating temperature range. The
system is fitted inside a Pelicase that has a towing handle for easy
transportation. For safety, there is a circuit breaker on the output to
protect against overload and prevent electrocution. Power is turned on via
a heavy-duty switch. The Red Flash unit has a pure sine wave output and is
suitable for running all mains powered equipment up to 1000W.
Designed specifically for the professional user, the Red Flash® High Rate
Starter Packs are suitable for starting most 12V and 24V engines –
automotive, marine and rail. With safety in mind, each starter pack
incorporates many safety features. Surge and spike protection circuits
reduce the risk of damage to on-board electronic systems, and the ON/Off
isolator switch means power is available only when you need it. The use of
fully insulated cable clamps, welding grade cable and the highest quality
batteries ensure the unit can be used in the harshest conditions, and will
start the most stubborn engines. The extremely robust case is made of
polyethylene and will protect the internal batteries and electronics from
damage. The case is also fully resistant to oils and contamination found
in workshops.
